AJ's
is a collaboration of America's Favorite Foods served seven
days a week serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. AJ makes
everything in house using fresh ingredients and an orchestra
of recipes. The only canned ingredients are ketchup, oil,
mustard, tomatoes, condensed milk, evaporated milk, hot
fudge and on occasion beans. "Taste Our Word For It”,
the products we produce will become your favorite foods.
To be absolutely honest AJ admittedly uses frozen spinach
to prepare the cream of spinach and a brownie mix that he
adds more chocolate to make the giant killer brownies, as
well as David’s Chocolate Chip Cookies.
While Italian food is not the focus at AJ's,
Alan has incorporated some of his key dishes including delicious
thin crust pizza, eggplant and chicken parmagiana made with
his classic homemade tomato sauce. Trying the pizza is a
must, we offer a twelve inch, thin crust pie following a
recipe that's been passed down through generations, spreading
the sauce on top of the cheese and fresh blend of spices.
The pizza is delicious and the choices are extensive. The
family favorite is the Buffalo Chicken Pizza.
The burgers and sliders are served on Martin’s potato
rolls. Made with quality beef from a local distributor it
is always made in small batches and tested before it goes
out. The patties are formed by hand and char grilled anyway
you want. All the toppings are cut fresh daily. You would
be missing out if you forget to eat some sliders. The sliders
are made with the same technique as the White Manna in Hackensack
NJ, which was moved from the Worlds Fair of 1964 in Queens.
AJ’s sliders are made from quality beef cooked on
a flat grill with grilled onions, fresh pickle chips and
ketchup, it leaves you craving more.
In addition, the chicken cutlet sandwiches are hand trimmed
thinly sliced and char grilled to order. Like the burgers
you may choose with or without cheese and either with the
'works' which includes freshly cut lettuce, tomato, onion
and pickle, or you can opt for grilled onions. Adding bacon
or homemade chili is a great way to make a good burger even
better.
AJ’s chili is a secret blend of spices
including dry guajilo peppers. In the mood for something
new the chipotle sauce is another flavor you must try. It
is a delicious way to add some spice to your sandwich. It's
a mayonnaise based sauce that adds the perfect amount of
kick to any burger or sandwich. Like his sandwiches, the
potatoes are made to order, never frozen and fresh cut.
If you're in the mood for something lighter
he offers two soups daily both made from scratch. The chicken
soup is from his great grandmother’s recipe combined
with Escoffier techniques. The shrimp bisque is made from
farm raised shrimp; rich cream and pepper to give it a bite.
The soup of the day is also made from scratch with quality
ingredients they includes household favorites such as split
pea, cream of tomato, lentil, cream of broccoli, straccatelli,
cream of mushroom, cabbage soup, cream of celery, minestrone,
and corn chowder, to name a few.
If you're hungry for something more substantial
AJ's offers hot plates featuring freshly char grilled half
chickens, chicken cutlets, shrimp, steak or ribs. The half
chickens are specially seasoned than baked and char grilled
with the skin on creating a crispy, juicy and most importantly
a flavorful meal. The chicken cutlets are hand trimmed and
tossed in fresh garlic than grilled to order. Both chicken
dishes are served with your choice of a homemade sauce including:
a cilantro garlic sauce which is a twist on a classic Argentinean
chimi churi sauce, a buffalo or barbecue sauce. The ribs
are St. Louis style spare ribs which are leaner and meatier
than your regular rack of ribs (our are on the large side).
They are smoked low and slow with a special dry rub then
marinated in BBQ Sauce. The hot plates are served with homemade
bread and homemade sauces.
“Healthy Delicious Options”
another section of specials where AJ continues to offer
great quality and scrumptious taste with less fat and whole
grains. This includes combinations such as Char-Grilled
Chicken with Broccoli Rabe.
AJ’s makes twelve homemade side dishes
six hot and six cold. Another must have is our cole slaw,
macaroni and potato salad. If you're feeling adventurous
and want to try something new there's another family recipe
on the menu; a light and delicious cucumber salad made from
fresh cucumbers, dill and white vinegar. Another healthy
conscious option is the health salad made from cabbage and
balsamic vinaigrette instead of mayonnaise. The spicy pickle
salad, another Original Wedge Inn favorite, is a hot cherry
pepper base mixed with fresh carrots, celery and dill pickles.
The hot sides, like the rest of the menu
are homemade and delicious. The creamed spinach and macaroni
& cheese both use a béchamel sauce as a base.
The classic white sauce is then blended with different spices
and cheeses. The mouth watering mashed potatoes is made
with whole milk, butter and freshly boiled potatoes. The
potatoes are served with an outstanding gravy, homemade
from a stock of meat bones and vegetables, then thickened
with a roux and seasoned to perfection. The rice and beans
incorporate the cilantro garlic sauce and kidney beans to
add a nice Hispanic flavor to a classic side. For the more
healthy option there's a choice of seasonal greens sautéed
in garlic and oil or steamed vegetables seasoned with garlic
and fresh herbs. All the sides are a wonderful compliment
to a hot plate and are guaranteed to leave you satisfied.
AJ's is a great family restaurant and provides quality food
that is reasonably priced. The family value meals which
come with chicken, shrimp and/or ribs served with a fresh
salad featuring homemade Italian or Caesar dressing, a large
rice and beans, greens in garlic and oil, fries and fresh
baked bread. With oversized portions you will enjoy our
food again and want to return soon.
Your meal is not complete until you
taste one of the irresistible desserts combining family
and Italian recipes to create signature bites of decadence.
The apple cobbler, made from fresh apples, is served warm
with Gifford’s ice cream and real whipped cream. The
cheesecake is a creamier version of Italian cheese cake
made from ricotta cheese, evaporated and condensed milk.
The canolis a handed down Old Italian recipe are made to
order (leaving a crunchy canola shell with a creamy filling).
The rice pudding is an adaptation of the Thruway diner recipe,
and then modified to create a creamier consistency. AJ’s
features award winning Gifford’s ice cream in either
chocolate or vanilla. The brownies are made from a Ghirardelli
chocolate mix and the cookies are baked fresh daily (David’s
Cookie Dough Triple Chocolate).
Along with the standard menu AJ's offers specials which
included clam dishes, fresh salmon and baked ziti. AJ's
is not just a random collaboration of meals. The menu is
a reflection of years of research and taste testing to perfect
